Ketosis 101
Ketosis Defined
ke·to·sis
Ketosis is a normal metabolic process, something your body does to keep working. When it doesn't have enough carbohydrates from food for your cells to burn for energy, it burns fat instead. As part of this process, it makes Ketones.
What are Ketones?
Everyone has them. Ketones are chemicals made in your liver. Find out more.
Why do I need to take supplemental (“exogenous”) Ketones?
There's a distinct difference between nutritional ketosis and taking exogenous ketones. Nutritional ketosis is the state of your body using fat as a source of fuel. Most of us are accustomed to using glucose or sugar as fuel, because we ingest that more frequently, and that's what our body uses to create energy. When we transition to a low carbohydrate, moderate protein, high fat diet, this allows our body to transition from using that sugar to using fat as our primary source of fuel or energy. When we do that, that's how we move into nutritional ketosis. This is called a ketogenic diet. For some people to become keto-adapted or to move into nutritional ketosis, it can take weeks. Other people can take months. It just depends on each individual. Exogenous ketones allow you to drink or eat ketones orally. So you elevate your blood ketone levels as if you were in nutritional ketosis, but without having to follow the strict guidelines of being on a ketogenic diet. These ketones will stay in your system anywhere from three to six hours. Find out more.
So where did this all start..
During our fetal development, we thrived in a Ketosis environment. This state was critical to our brain development as well as all the mitochondria throughout our bodies. After birth, we continued to live in a Ketosis rich state through our mother’s breast milk which is very high in fat. You can say that going keto is really just going back to the basics of our development.
As we’ve discussed, what we put in our bodies will be key in helping us return to a Ketosis state. That is why Keto GPS is committed to providing you with the highest quality Exogenous Ketone products on the market.
